Slate Digital VCC Analyzed

Slate Digital VCC Analyzed

After using Slate Digital VCC on the past few mixes, it was time to put it under the microscope. Curiosity had me wondering what changes if any were happening to the frequency spectrum, & harmonic content.

Using a Prism DScopeIII via AES I created three measurements per model.

  • Frequency response
  • Harmonic distortion
  • Distortion in relation to frequency

( For a detailed review check out the write-up by Jon Tidey over at audiogeekzine.com )

The results while being driven to 1% distortion are as follows.

  • This was very helpful, I see a trend latetly with using BusCompressors and Tape simulators, but it seems that what I really need is just some little high end cut, and a little bit of oversampled saturation on top of it.
Thank you for running this tests.
